Professor Gbenga Ibileye has been appointed as the 4th substantive Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja, sparking widespread jubilation across the institution. This historic appointment marks a significant milestone, as Ibileye becomes the first professor from within the university to assume the role.
Ibileye’s vision for higher education focuses on Academic Excellence & Research Culture, Infrastructure & Digital Transformation, Community Partnerships & Entrepreneurship, and International Collaborations & Global Rankings. With over three decades of teaching and research experience, he has attracted over ₦1.4 billion in funding and consultancy, and has published numerous articles and books, including “Current Trends in Discourse Analysis” and “English Teacher’s Guide Series 1-6”
A prolific scholar, Ibileye has supervised over 30 doctoral candidates and countless master’s degree students. His research expertise includes Discourse Analysis, Pragmatics, Legal Linguistics, Forensic Linguistics, and Applied Linguistics.
Ibileye’s appointment is a testament to his outstanding academic and leadership credentials. He has held various leadership positions, including Acting Vice-Chancellor, Chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee, and Pioneer Director of General Studies. His contributions to community development include establishing the Gbenga Ibileye Prize for Academic Excellence and sponsoring grassroots football.
