Alhaji Abubakar Usman Yahaya has declared his intention to contest the House of Representatives seat for the Ankpa/Olamaboro/Omala Federal Constituency under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Yahaya said his campaign would be anchored on youth empowerment, improved social services and inclusive development.

His campaign team described him as “a blend of business acumen, legal training and humanitarian commitment,” insisting he would prioritise healthcare, education, infrastructure and job creation if elected.

His philanthropic work, carried out through the Maimuna & Usman Yahaya Foundation, includes a 20-bed hospital offering free healthcare to women and children. He also donated an isolation centre to the Kogi State Government during the COVID-19 pandemic, and provides scholarships and support to widows and vulnerable groups.

The aspirant, who has travelled to several countries including the United States, China and the UAE, said his global exposure would shape his approach to policymaking and constituency development.

Details of town-hall meetings and consultations with stakeholders are expected to be released in the coming days.

Born on 9 September 1982, the businessman traced his early education to Ankpa and later Federal Government College, Kwali. He holds degrees in Political Science, International Relations and Law, alongside professional certifications in conflict resolution and negotiation.

Yahaya, a serial entrepreneur, is the founder of Nur-Kareem Energy Nigeria Ltd, Maimus Integrated Oil Co. Ltd and Sabir Nigeria Ltd — ventures he said were created from “modest beginnings” but now provide jobs and economic opportunities for young people.
