Tragedy struck in the early hours of Sunday when armed bandits launched a deadly attack on a police checkpoint in Kupa community, Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing police officers on duty.

This barbaric act is a direct assault on the peace and security of the people of the community. The attackers ambushed the officers in the line of duty, and despite the quick intervention of the police rescue team, local vigilantes, and other security operatives, lives were lost. Efforts to apprehend the culprits are ongoing.

Confirming the incident, the community leader H RH.Pharm.Dauda Kabir Isah condemned the attack, describing it as “an act of wickedness that must not go unpunished.” He assured that the community will fully cooperate with security agencies to ensure the criminals are tracked down and brought to justice.

The community commend the courage of the police and vigilante team, who continue to stand in defence of their people, often at great personal risk and equally call on the Federal and State Governments to strengthen security presence and infrastructure in the Kupa axis, which remains a critical corridor linking Kogi, Kwara, and Niger States.

The atmosphere in Kupa remains tense but calm, as residents express grief over the loss of officers who paid the ultimate price while protecting their community and fear of further attacks.

This sad incident underscores the urgent need for reinforced police stations, checkpoints, modern security gadgets, and community-driven intelligence support to defeat criminality in the community.

The community mourn the gallant officers who paid the supreme price and extends its deepest condolences to their families, the Nigeria Police Force, the people of Kogi State and will remain united with security agencies to ensure peace, safety, and justice.
