The Keffi-Abuja road, a vital artery connecting the Nasarawa State capital to Nigeria’s political and economic hub, has for too long been left to deteriorate under the negligent watch of both the Federal and Nasarawa State governments. As a dedicated member of the Road Users Development Network of Nigeria, I feel compelled to speak out against the persistent neglect that endangers the lives of motorists, commuters, and all who rely on this crucial route.

For years, the authorities have failed to prioritize the maintenance of the drainage systems along this busy highway. The drainage channels are clogged, poorly maintained, and often completely blocked, leading to frequent flooding during the rainy season. This not only causes traffic chaos but also damages the already fragile road infrastructure. Instead of proactive measures—such as clearing and deepening the drainage systems—government officials have turned a blind eye, leaving motorists to contend with waterlogged roads and increased accident risks.

Furthermore, the road itself has long gone beyond its useful lifespan. Potholes, cracks, and uneven surfaces have become the norm, making travel hazardous and uncomfortable. Despite repeated calls from road users and stakeholders, little has been done to rehabilitate or reconstruct the deteriorating sections of the highway. The neglect has turned what was once a smooth, reliable route into a death trap for commuters.

This blatant disregard is unacceptable. The Keffi-Abuja road is a lifeline for economic activities, daily commuters, and travelers alike. Its condition reflects the government’s failure to fulfill their duty to provide safe and functional infrastructure. The lack of action not only endangers lives but also hampers commerce and mobility in the region.

It is high time that the Federal and Nasarawa State governments prioritize the rehabilitation of this vital route. Clearing and deepening drainage channels, repairing the road surface, and implementing sustainable maintenance practices are urgent steps needed to restore safety and reliability. The road users of Nigeria deserve better than this neglect; they deserve proactive governance that values their safety and well-being.

As a member of the Road Users Development Network of Nigeria, I call on the authorities to heed this plea and act decisively. The Keffi-Abuja road must no longer be a symbol of governmental neglect, but a testament to their commitment to infrastructural development and the welfare of their citizens.
