The Social Democratic Party (SDP) says it received with the news of the passing of President Muhammadu Buhari great shock.
President Buhari died in London on Sunday.
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the party, under the leadership of the Acting National Chairman, Dr. Sadiq Umar Abubakar Gombe, commiserated with the former first lady, Hajia Aishat Buhari, and the immediate family on the great loss.
In a statement signed by the SDP National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, the party said President Buhari held the second national record after President Obasanjo, of being a Nigerian military Head of State and also serving as civilian president.
The Party noted that the late President epitomised puritanical disposition to life, stoic self-discipline, corruption-free orientation, and admirable piety.
“As a remarkable leader with uncommon cult-like followership, and a man of courage of convictions, he made his mark as a military ruler and also as civilian president, recording significant contributions to national development, and bequeathed to the nation, a name that is synonymous with discipline and noble values.

“The memory of the life and times of President Buhari’s will continue to be a moral compass and veritable guide to our national pathway in our collective quest for good governance and sustainable national development,” the statement added.
