A 49-year-old head- teacher of Local Government Secondary School, Oshokoshoko, Lokoja, Mr. Christopher Ogbeun, was yesterday arrested by the Kogi State Police Command for allegedly attacking his 10- year-old son, Stephen, with a hot pressing iron.
Ogbeun said he attacked his son with a hot pressing iron because he destroyed his vital documents.
Police Commissioner Mohammed Musa Katsina, while parading the suspect before reporters at the Police Command headquarters in Lokoja, said but for the quick intervention of the men of the Special Ambush Squad, the head teacher would have killed his son.
According to him, the police caught the suspect red handed as he tied up the boy’s hand, closed his mouth and used the hot pressing iron to attack him.
He said the suspect would be charged to court for unlawful detention, inflicting injuries on the boy and attempted murder.
At the State Specialists Hospital, Lokoja, where Stephen is receiving treatment, relations were in a pensive mood, praying for his recovery.
Efforts to speak with the hospital authority were unsuccessful.
Speaking with reporters at the Police Command headquarters, the suspect admitted that he committed the offence.
He said he discovered that the boy had destroyed a letter of approval from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and he asked him why, but he refused to own up.
“When I asked him to tell me the truth, he refused and I used pressing iron to attack him,” the head teacher said.
