At least 37,000 people have benefited from the second phase of the Kogi State rural free medical services that has just been concluded across the three senatorial districts of the state.
State Governor, Idris Wada, disclosed this yesterday while receiving the medical team’s report on the programme from the six centres, he commended the team for a job well done.
Wada said the popularity of the state’s free medical services is a testimony that the government is committed to the well being of the people at the grassroots level.
The governor was, however, worried over the abandonment of the cottage hospital that was primarily designed to take care of the people in the rural areas, he said more people are waiting for the free medical services.
Wada pointed out that the purpose of the rural medical service is to help indigent people, who for exceptional reasons could not afford transportation to the cities for better treatment.
He also lamented that the purpose for which the cottage hospital was established will be defeated if people refused to patronise them.
He therefore called on the health commissioner to research into why people are always over flowing the free medical intervention programme of the state government, saying that he was worried and something very fast has to be done to ameliorate the situation.
