Unknown gunmen, last Thursday, abducted five persons in Orobomi community in Kogi Local Government Area of Kogi State.
According to a relative of the kidnap victims, simply identified as Ibrahim, a 36-year-old house wife, Talatu Usman and four others were abducted after the kidnappers invaded the community in the night wielding sophisticated weapons.
He said the kidnappers shot into the air while leading their victims into the forest, adding that there was no security presence during the attack.
He said it was later that some vigilantes from the neighbouring Girinya community mobilized to the community but the kidnappers had already left the community with their hostages.
A vigilante member, who preferred anonymity, confirmed the incident.
“As I am talking to you right now, the vigilantes are combing some forests around the area in order to trace their hideout,” he said.
However, the public relations officer of the Kogi State police command, Williams Ovye Aya, is yet to confirm the incident as all calls to his phone were unanswered.
