Coordinator of Community Services, Women and Youth Employment Project of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme, SURE-P in Kogi State, Mr Abdullahi Ohiomah has said 3,000 women and youths have been trained.
Speaking with Daily Trust in Abuja recently, Ohiomah said, “We have a target of 10,000 women and youths to be captured under this programme in each state of the federation.
“We started with 3,000 in Kogi State with women having not less than 35 percent slots.
“The Federal Government, in appreciating this effort pays them a stipend of N10,000 every month.”
It is expected that after one year, beneficiaries will be given skill acquisition development so that they can do things on their own.
This category does not include graduates. Graduates have their programme called Graduate Internship Scheme that is centralized in Abuja.
Recently, coordinators of SURE-P came under public scrutiny as allegations of political manipulation and underhandedness dogged the programme.
The programme is domiciled in the ministry of labour and productivity.
