A four storey building under construction located at Zone 8 area of Lokoja in Kogi State collapsed in lokoja yesterday with three persons sustaining serious degrees of injuries.
One of the workers on site when the building collapsed who gave his name as Samuel stated that the building collapsed around 2 p.m while the construction workers were working.
According to him, “I was working on the other side while others were working under the collapsed side. There was no sign of weakness on the structure but suddenly, we just heard a loud bang, only for us to discover that part of the building has collapsed, injuring three people. We ran out immediately on hearing the noise and rescued those that were injured.”
He said immediately, those injured were rushed to the Kogi State Specialist Hospital for treatment, informing that he is not sure whether the site engineer was around as he was a labourer brought in from Jos, Plateau State.
The officials of the Kogi State Emergency Management Agency and Nigeria Civil Defence and Security Corp (NSCDC) were seen carrying out rescue operations at the site of the collapsed building.
However, the State Emergency Management Agency Acting secretary, Alice Ogedengbe, who was on site said the injured ones have been taken to the hospital for treatment.

At the hospital, however, the victims of the collapsed building were sleeping at the emergency unit while the third one who was in serious condition was being attended to by the doctor at the emergency unit.
A medical assistant at the hospital disclosed that two of the victims are in stable condition while the other is in critical condition.
