As early groundwork for the 2027 general elections begins to take shape, the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is already drawing organised political and grassroots engagement across key constituencies.
On Thursday, 2 January 2026, a New Year prayer session was held at the Kabawa Central Mosque, Lokoja, in honour of the President and Senator Sunday Steve Karimi, who represents the Kogi West Senatorial District. The prayer session was organised by Suleiman Jamaludeen Muhammad, Convener of the Kareemi Medical Support Group.
The event, led by the Chief Imam of Lokoja, focused on prayers for national stability, wisdom in leadership, and divine guidance for the country, as well as for President Tinubu’s prospective second-term bid. The gathering formed part of New Year supplications, reflecting faith-based support and community goodwill rather than a formal campaign rally.
Observers note that the timing of the prayers carries political significance. Coming at the very start of the election cycle, the gathering positions Kogi West as an early contributor to the evolving 2027 political landscape, while framing political engagement around unity, moral responsibility, and peaceful democratic participation.
The event adds to a growing pattern of early alignment and grassroots mobilisation by key allies, as political actors quietly lay the foundations for the 2027 presidential contest.
