A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Engr. Edward Olatunji Meseko, has denied rumour making rounds that he has set aside his ambition to represent Yagba federal constituency in the House of Representatives.
The businessman who was recently conferred with a chieftaincy title as Bobakeye of Osogbo kingdom, said his aspiration to represent his people is intact and on course.
Meseko made this known during a media chat on Friday.
He said rather than being seen as a distraction, his new title will enhance his focus on his political journey and assured of his determination to see his desire for elective office through and to positive conclusion.
He explained that his decision to contest the rep seat was borne out of genuine love for his people, describing rumour of his alleged step down as laughable and the handiwork of his political opponents.
“It is not true. Politics is like a battle. Have you ever seen where a strong team or side will surrender or step down for an underdog? Why and for who should I step down? I don’t go into any venture without assessing the risks.
“I’m in the race because I have the people with me, and with their support I know I can win. The people spreading the rumour are wasting their time. I advice them to face more worthy issues. I am in the race, and will remain in the race till the end.
“I did not step down or abandon the ship in 2019 when people invoked government machinery against me. I stood my ground and maintained my balance against them. I am on the field working and consulting. When the time comes, they will know stepping down is not in my agenda,” he said.
Meseko assured his supporters and constituents of his steadfastness and desire to see the long awaited development of Yagbaland, become a reality, emphasising that only quality representation with the support of a development oriented government can bring it to pass.
