A political pressure group, the Kogi Central Political Ambassadors (KCPA), has thrown its weight behind agitations that the governorship seat in the state move to the western senatorial district in 2023.

In a statement issued and signed by the Chairman, Malam Muhammed Onimisi, KCPA noted that the group’s position is premised on the need for equity, fairness and justice in the state.

Onimisi stated the group’s surveys among supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the 2023 gubernatorial polls indicated that the majority fully support that power should shift to the West.

“Kogi state is a by-product of both old Kabba province and Kwara state respectively. At a particular period in our political evolution, the present three senatorial districts were under Kabba province before the Eastern flank ceded to Benue state while the Central and the West remained in Kwara state.

“Today, the East, Central and West senatorial districts are co-habiting in Kogi state. The Kogi Central Political Ambassadors is a network of persons who believed very strongly in Kogi project where equity, fairness, and justice shall continue to be a hallmark of our existence as a people.

“The political agitation in Kogi state has been power shift, power rotation and power balance. As we approach 2023, various groups are already ventilating and the agitations are gathering momentum.

“As far as we are concerned, there is no alternative to unity and peace. We of this network will like to lend our voice in support of all genuine mechanism that could be deployed to guarantee an enduring and lasting peace and development in our beloved state: Confluence of opportunities.

“It is an undisputable fact that Kogi East had the Governor seat for 19 years: 1992-1993, 1999-2003, 2003-2015. This is the scheming of majoritism. Then, Kogi Central can be said to have enjoy Governor seat for 12 years: 1979-1983, 2016-2024. The only district yet to enjoy this privilege is Kogi West. The unique circumstance divinely brought by Almighty Allah in Kogi state necessitating power shift or power rotation should be upheld because Allah does not make mistake.

“Since we cannot question the act of Almighty Allah, it is better our political elites embrace the popular movement for the actualisation of rotational governance structure in Kogi state. On this note, we in this network throw our unshakeable support to our brothers in Kogi West to produce Governor of Kogi state in 2023.

“Our call on all political parties to ensure that their flag bearers are from Kogi West. On our part, we have set in motion machinery through contact, sensitization, mobilisation, dialogue, persuasion and above all prayers for the realisation of this long lasting political legacy.

“The Kogi Central political Ambassadors, is also calling on Kogites and indeed Nigerians to support our own Governor Alh Yahaya Bello for 2023 presidency. He is the beam light of the North Central region and the hope of the hopeless. Nigeria shall be better under Yahaya Bello,” the statement read.
