Dear Governor Yahaya Bello,
It is my gratification to put up this significant letter to you sir, and I am of the opinion that, it will go along way to address some lingering issues in new direction government and subsequently give a result oriented outcome on the best brain to do the magic for new direction team in Kogi West Senatorial District.
As we are rounding up the sacred month of Ramadhan, may the crescent-shaped moon brighten your path toward divine enlightenment and may Allah in His infinite mercies bless you and your family with peace and grace to pilot the affairs of our dear State to the promise land. Wishing you happy Ramadhan and Eidul I fitr in advance.
To succinctly swift to the subject matter, they say “Things work out best for those who make the best of how things
work out.”
Your excellency sir, I drafted my inspiration from the above quote to present to you the candidate to beat, in the forthcoming Senatorial election of Kogi West come 2019.
From all indications, Sen Smart Adeyemi’s phobia has eclipsed the opposition parties and that has sent them fretful  and cheesy to the extent of sponsoring articles against his becoming the flagbearer of APC out of fear of his wide acceptability in Kogi West Senatorial District. Knowing fully well that his emergence as the representative of Kogi West at the upper chambers in 2019, is to secure Kogi West senatorial flank for GYB reelection bid.
Albeit, in heralding the whim and caprices of Sen Smart Adeyemi political strength, I need to emphasise a particular fact that is very germane that most not be sweopt under the carpet. There was no senate election since 2007 without serious contenders from Yagba Federal Constituency, to my consternation, Distinguish Sen Smart Adeyemi will still record landslide winning even against some of the contestants in most of their wards or polling units.
It is actually been a hot contest within those I will refer to as political newbies and technocrat. As I will describe the political newbies as those who are absolutely noob  in either partaking in or winning elections of whatever cadre so far.
While a political technocrat is an individual who operates, makes decisions based solely on technical information, strategies and not personal or public opinions with an existing structural base in participating in electoral process.
Being it as it may, the two brands of political classes are vehemently vying for who dons the cap of Kogi West Senatorial District tickets in our dear party, APC.
Considering the precarious situation we currently have our representative at the upper chambers, whoever that will succeed him must be very articulate in campaign strategies to win elections with landslide margin, in which will trickle down to convincing a huge number of voters to vote for APC’s candidate and any other thing is just a process.
The main political campaign tool for winning an election in Kogi West Senatorial District is communicating the values, benefits, solutions to the masses’ challenges; telling voters how you want to solve their problems, what you stand for, why electorates should vote for you compare to opponent(s), candidates.
Stake holders must have the foreknowledge of the candidate to vote for, his/her pedigree and his/her political spread and worth if  elected, and then any other thing will follow.
Such a candidate must have been tested, accountable, transparent, equitable, inclusive and meritocratic in all spheres of representations.
For the fact that, everyone including the government itself, is accountable to laws which are equally enforced and are independently adjudicated.
On the issue of competence and transparency, I vehemently believe that the two allow the electorate to understand and scrutinise the decision-making process ensuring that decisions are taken in the interest of the common good, as I also argue in favour of inclusivity and saying the nation’s well-being “can only be assured if the interests of all, including future generations and especially the most vulnerable in the society, are taken into considerable significance.”
Meritocracy is another principle that I crave your indulgence to push for, because this would mean that “the best
people are selected according to merit rather than by rotational alacrity, partisanship, nepotism, thus allowing the best player to kick the ball in order to get the desired goal.
Your Excellency sir,  the ill-fated zoning arrangement of who becomes the Senator of Kogi West has no solid foundation right from the onset. Ethnicity has therefore manifested itself strongly, resulting into political intolerance, marginalization and manipulation which have come to be identifiable features of Nigeria’s political culture with dire consequences on her political development.
On this note sir, I will be delighted to take you back the memory lane on  sequence of the occupants of Senatorial Seat of Kogi West, since the inception of democratic setting in Nigeria.
The first person to ascend to this revered position was a Yagba Man from Yagba West Local  Government, Sen, Justus Olu, 1979-1983, after the expiration of his tenure, it went to Kabba Bunu Local Government where Sen, Joe Funsho Obasaju was voted into office, 1983, it later moved to Yagba Federal Constituency again, Mopa Amuro Local Government to be precised, Sen Sunday Awoniyi, 1991-1993. It moved on to Lokoja/Koto Federal Constituency, Sen Tunde Ogbeha, 1999-2007.
When it was  coming back to Okun Land, Architect Olorunfemi of the blessed memory, a high profile politician in Okun Land called all the political stakeholders from Yagba and BIK Federal Constituencies to initiate the spirit of a concrete rotational system that will bring everlasting solution to any perceived art of marginalization, to cede and begin the position from Ijumu Local Government where none had ever had a shot at the Senate as at then.
The strong politicians from Yagba Federal Constituency walked out of the meeting angrily as they turned down the rotational agreement of the Senatorial Seat in Kogi West. They did that as a result of their influences in government and subsequently fought tooth and nail thinking they would get the tickets under the ruling party.
The duo of Yomi Awoniyi who was a progeny to a veteran political Icon in person of Sen Sunday Awoniyi, Secretary to the apex socio cultural association in the northern region, Arewa Consultative Forum and Hon TJ Faniyi who was also a high ranking Commissioner, Ministry for Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs in Kogi State were the main contenders against the consensus candidate of Kabba Bunu/Ijumu (BIK) Federal Constituency in person of Sen Smart Adeyemi.
These political heavy weights did not put into cognizance the fact that, no Ijumu man had so far tasted the exalted seat in the senatorial district and went into a hot contest with SSA. This situation really posed a dilemma of sorts for Kogi West Senatorial Districts’ political development.
As God Almighty would have it, it favoured the son of the soil, Distinguish Sen Smart Adeyemi.
On the note of his outstanding legislative performance and credibility, he won his second term bidding within the plethora of the  contending Yagba Aspirants.
In the same vein, during the 2015 general elections, there were plethoric numbers of candidates from Yagba Federal Constituency who slugged it out with the major two Ijumu men, Dist, SSA and SDM in which President Buhari’s Tsunami gave the later edge to win the seat, that is presently constituting legislative nuisance and rascality at the “Upper Chambers”
In all fairness and honesty, no time any candidate from Kabba Bunu/Ijumu  Federal Constituency vied for this position that people from Yagba wouldn’t go into a contending contest which absolutely negate the principle of a judicious rotational system.
Your excellency sir, It’s worthy to note that, the most significant need at this critical point in time in our electoral attainment, where the good people of Kogi West is desperately clamouring for the reelection victory of GYB come 2019, we must not field a political newbie for an election that is a “must win” which will be the determinant factor for the result of the November/December gubernatorial election in Kogi West Senatorial District, while we have someone who has the wherewithal, antecedent, capacity, capability, and acceptability of those who determine the electoral process in Kogi West Senatorial District, to give an overwhelming result at the poll by activating his indomitable and existing political structure.
We must not jettison good representation, integrity, experience, morality, academic excellence for ethnocentrism, acrimonious debate, primordial sentiment, primitive recursion, archaic assertion, precipitated prejudice and unnecessary drama.
Your excellency sir, another important factor that must be put into consideration is who get a significant portfolio of whatever heights at the Senate for the betterment of the entire citizens of Kogi State at large, which still narrows down to the consistence number of presence of each Senator at the Nigerian Senate.
Distinguish Sen Smart Adeyemi is a capacity and capacitated political engine room who is a tested and result oriented enigma that can comfortably deliver Kogi West Senatorial District for new direction government come 2019.
Should this candid and research based admonition is heeded to, I’m pretty sure victory is certainly sacrosanct in Kogi West Senatorial District election come 2019, and I have a firm believe that my Governor is a team player who listens to useful advices irrespective of the sources.
Yours Faithfully,
Kamaldeen Toyin
A Senior Advocate Of New Direction Government and Critical APC Stakeholder From Okun Land.
