Ahead of the 2019 General Elections in Nigeria, the leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area led by its Chairman, Hon. Olorunmosule Medusa has unanimously endorsed Rt. Hon. Matthew Kolawole as the sole aspirant that will fly the flag of the party for Kabba/Bunu State Constituency.
This was disclosed over the weekend when Rt Hon Matthew Kolawole visited the Executive members at the party secretariat in Kabba to submit his intent letter and also to intimidate them of his readiness to return to the assembly for a second term.
According to the letter, the Speaker said it becomes imperative for him to yield to the calls of the people, noting that after due consultations with relevant stakeholders, opinion molders, elders, he has decided to make himself available to continue to render selfless service to the people.
He further said his aim of returning to the assembly is to consolidate on the gains that has accrued to the constituency through his laudable policies and programs that has impacted positively on the people.
He promised to continue to provide qualitative representation for the constituency if given the opportunity again, as that would enable him to take the area to another level of development.
Rt Hon Kolawole commended the leadership of the party for carrying along all party structure in their decision making process, urging them to continue to mobilise for the party to continue to maintain its dominance in the local government.
He appealed to the party to always follow the instructions of the party leadership as passed by the national through the Governor who is the leader of the party in the state.
He urged party members to continue to spread and preach the gospel of the APC and GYB in the area, noting that issue of salary in the state will soon be a thing of the past.
While reacting to the letter, the Chairman of the party who led other executive members both at the local government and ward level, commended the Speaker for his purposeful leadership at repositioning the party in Kabba/Bunu LGA.
He said since the Speaker came on board, the party has not remained the same, stressing that his leadership has truly engendered progress and cohesiveness within the party.
He said the party has nothing to say than to thank him for his good works of providing qualitative representation for the people of the area.
He said based on his track records, the executive members which comprises of the local government and ward chairmen unanimously endorsed the Speaker for a second term in the next party primary election which is scheduled to hold in September.
He appealed to other aspirants to allow the party to field credible people that can win elections for the party.
He said a committee has been set up to streamline the number of aspirants, pointing out that the committee will commence it’s assignment this week.
Medusa said the committee would hold meetings with all aspirants for various elective positions, from senatorial to the state assembly under the platform of the party in order to promote internal democracy and also reduce rancour before and after the primaries.
According to him, the Governor as the leader of the party in the state is only interested in credible candidates that can will elections, noting that the party would provide level playing ground for all aspirants.
He said for the assembly, he urged other contestants to work with the party’s decision as there are other positions available to compensate them.
He stressed that the party will make all aspirants to sign a pact with the party in order to secure their confidence and support for the party before and after the primary.
He noted that the overall success of the party at the general elections is much more important to the party, from President to the assembly positions.
Meanwhile in another related development, the Elders Advisory Council in Kabba/Bunu led by its Chairman, Chief Olusco has also endorsed and prayed for the success of Rt Hon Matthew Kolawole’s ambition come 2019.
According to him, the speaker has performed well, hence the need for him to be given another opportunity to consolidate on the achievements recorded in his first 4 years.
He said this is the first time an assembly member from the constituency will perform to the admiration of all irrespective of religion and party affiliations, stressing that there was no need to waste the slot than to allow him to return to continue to make the constituency proud at the state level.
Highlights of the meeting were prayers offered for the overall success of the Speaker and that of the party by the two groups.
