2019 Elections: Kogi NUJ to Hold Media Parley for Aspirants

Kogi State council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has announced that it will convene an all-encompassing media parley for those seeking elective positions in the state.

The chairman of the media parley committee, Mr Mike Abu made this known on Wednesday during a courtesy call on the executive Editor of The Graphic Newspaper, Mr James Oyewole.

Abu said the parley will avail aspirants for governorship, national assembly, state house of assembly seats the opportunity to air their manifesto to the public.

He said the parley will set the stage for demanding for accountability and transparency when these political aspirants eventually gets elected.

“As part of our corporate social responsibility and onerous task of holding leaders accountable to the public, the state chairman of the NUJ, Comrade Momohjimoh Adeiza recently inaugurated the media parley committee to fine tune mechanisms of bringing all aspirants for interactive sessions”, he revealed.

Aside enlightenment and voter education, Abu noted that documentation of submissions by aspirants at the parley will be meticulously compiled in the course of the media engagement. Through this, he argued, political leaders will be guided when they are eventually elected.

Oyewole, while describing the mandate of the committee as a noble course, said the corporation will support the committee to actualise its set objectives.

He however suggested that community leaders, cleric, civil society organisations and officers of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should be involved in the media engagements to enhance its credibility.
