The stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kogi State chapter, has said any attempt to give automatic ticket to some aspirants will definitely tear the party apart in the state.
A chieftain of the party in Kogi State, Chief Clarence Olafemi who is also a senatorial aspirant Kogi West senatorial district made this known to newsmen on Friday in Lokoja while speaking on behalf of other aspirants from Kogi west.
The former governor of Kogi State noted that they from the district have unanimously rejected any plan for imposition of candidate without creating a level playing ground for all the aspirants.
“Who ever is willing to contest should come out and join the race and who ever win at the end of primary others will join hands to support him.
“We will not accept any attempt to shut us down in a process that many of us have spent our resources and time.
“The party should allow a level playing ground for all the aspirants. Already, three persons have obtained the nomination form in Abuja, shutting them out is not the best and the effect of the imposition is that there will be a mass defection from PDP at the state level and the dreams of the party to reclaim the governance of the state will be a mirage,” he warned.
The former Speaker of the State House of Assembly opined that if the party leader at the national level did not care what will happen in Kogi State then the effort of rebuilding the party will be in vain.
He stressed further that at a meeting recently held at General (rtd) David Jembewon’s residence, the leaders of the party at that meeting rejected imposition of any candidate.
“There are area where consensus can work that is noted but area like Kogi west the leaders should allow the conduct of primary election to elect the candidate of the party for senatorial election.
“In Kogi State, nobody can work for Senator Dino Melaye because is an ungrateful man who is not with any body in the state. We rescued him from the recall process not because he is popular but to prove a point that since they don’t know how he get there they can not also remove him.
“He cannot come home to campaign and who will do that for him if he is in Abuja.
“He is a senator that eat alone, he does not carry people along and he is not in a good book of the people and cannot attract development to the land.
“It is sad for the people of Kogi West, they should find solution to it otherwise people will leave the party,” he lamented.
