As part of the activities marking the annual World Veterinary Day celebration which holds every last Saturday in the month of April, the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), Kogi state chapter has decided among other proposed activities to organise a welcome-back-home session for all her members across the country that bear Kogi state as a place of origin.
This compromise was reached during the last executive meeting of the body after it was discovered that Veterinarians belonging to this  demography constitute a significant fraction of the entire population of Vets in the country but yet with negligible to zero presence in the state.
In furtherance with the mandate of the new executive of the state’s chapter of NVMA, it was therefore imperative to create such platform to appreciate their (veteran colleagues) general contribution to the Veterinary profession in the country by way of award presentation and also to acquaint them with the current situation of the profession in Kogi state with a bid to chart a way forward.
While stating this in Lokoja during the weekend, the state chapter chairman, Dr Femi Kayode also stated that this year’s anniversary will be marked on the 27th of April with the theme: ‘The Role Of The Veterinary Profession In Sustainable Development To Improve Livelihoods, Food Security And Safety’. He said “A symposium will come up in the early hours of the day where paper presentations will be done while the ‘home coming’ dinner will follow suit later in the evening”.
“The dinner will also feature award presentation to individuals, farms and other allied veterinary firms that have contributed immensely to the enhancement of the veterinary profession in Kogi state”, he added.
