113,356 Persons Benefitted From Kogi Free Health Services Across 21 LGAs – Wada

A total of 113,356 persons were attended to by four teams of 30 professional persons per team in 96 locations in the 21 Local Government Areas of the 2013 Kogi State Government institutionalized quarterly free medical services. Conditions attended to by the team ranged from minor to major in medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics, gynecology and surgery.

Kogi State Governor, Capt Idris Wada stated this in an address on the occasion of the 9th State Council on Health meeting held in Lokoja, said the intervention were offered in the fields of medicine, surgery, laboratory and radiological investigation, at the  cost of one hundred and seventy eight million, one hundred and sixty six thousand and seventy seven kobo.

Capt Wada who was represented by his Deputy, Yomi Awoniyi, re-emphasized the administration’s commitment to health infrastructure and human capacity development for optimal productivity.

Capt Wada disclosed that government will continue to deploy financial resources to sustain healthcare programmes and to develop health training institutions in the State to improve deliverable health indicators.

The State Government, Capt Wada explained has renovated cold chain rooms in all the Local Government Areas, procured generators to assist in the maintenance of cold chain rooms and boost immunization activities and immunization coverage in the Local Government Areas.

While reading the resolution of the council’s meeting, Dr Idris Omede, Kogi State Commissioner for Health praised the Kogi State Government and developmental partners in their efforts towards attaining malaria elimination status by 2020.

The council resolution also urged the State and Local Government Areas to work towards ownership and sustainability of the malaria pre-clinical status by 2020.

The council in their resolution also notes the importance of clinical governance in ensuring quality healthcare services; re-commend the adoption of clinical governance and the adoption of a functional quality assurance office.
