Secretary, Adavi in local government area of Kogi state, Hon. Abdulmalik Onipe MKO, has called for more support for persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the society.
Hon MKO made the call during an empowerment programme he organized for PWDs to mark his first 100 days in office.
The Secretary explained that he targeted the people with disability because of their peculiar needs, being the most vulnerable group in the society. He believe the empowerment will go a long way in alleviating their sufferings.
“After my last empowerment outreaches across the 11 wards of Adavi Local Government during Ramadan, I felt people with disability as well as people with any other social problems weren’t well captured, so I decided to specially take care of them to celebrate my first 100days in office,” he said.
Chairman of the PWDs in Adavi LG, Mallam Idris Nagazi, thanked the the Local Government Secretary for the gesture.
“We are extremely happy with this gesture. This is the first time that a politician will be reaching out to us in this way. We are very happy,” he said.
Mallam Nagazi called for the establishment of a special centre to empower their members with vocational skills as they have good numbers of voters in Adavi.
The stakeholders present at the event also used the opportunity to appreciate Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for finding Hon. Abdulmalik worthy of this appointment who has countless time reached out to the people directly at the grassroot and helping the caretaker chairman, Hon. Bashiru Okategwu, in winning the heart of people of Adavi to APC the more within the shortest period
