Minister for Labour and Productivity, Barr. James Enejo Ocholi, SAN, has moved to reconcile aggrieved leaders of the party with a bid to resolving the political impasse threatening the party.
Ocholi who recently convened a meeting of party elders in the state in Abuja recently, harped on the need for reconciliation in order to move the state forward. He said the gains of APC’s victory will not be realized in the present circumstance pervaded by political hostilities.
Also, the Minister used the opportunity offered by the meeting to urge estranged party leaders to return to the party with a view to rebuilding the party and putting it on the path of excellence, saying change cannot be realized without peace and harmony.
“What we should be concerned about at the moment is how to give good governance to our people as a party. After the governorship election, we ought to put politics behind and concentrate on how to impact on the lives of our people who have suffered long periods of bad governance and negligence.
“This is no time for war but a time to embrace peace as brothers. Let us avoid hate speeches and divisive statements that are capable of heating up the polity. It is time to place Kogi first. It is time to put Kogi on the path of good governance”.
Ocholi also used the opportunity to welcome some of the party leaders who defected from the party due to the lack of internal democracy which robbed them of the opportunity of representing their people.
In his words: “The change we preach is one that respects the rule of law and party internal democracy. I want to assure all that the era of impunity is gone. What we are going through today at the tribunals are avoidable if we had done the needful. That is why all of us must come back together as a family to build a virile APC that is capable of sustaining its success”.
About fifty party leaders across the state atended the meeting such as Commodore Folusho Daniel (rtd), Dr. Adinoyi Ojo Onukaba, Hon. Dare Anjorin and many others.
Among other things, it was resolved at the meeting that efforts will be made to ensure robust engagement through regular meetings.
It was also resolved that a committee be put in place to reconcile the Governor-Elect, Alh. Yahaya Bello and his Deputy, Hon. Abiodun Faleke and to make them settle out of court
