Chief Ashem Afubu, a prominent leader, has urged the Igala and Nupe-Kogi communities to form a political alliance ahead of the upcoming November 11, 2023 elections in Kogi state.
In a statement released on Thursday, Chief Afubu said that the two communities have a long history of cooperation and that they shared many common interests. He said that by allying, the two communities could pool their resources and work together to achieve their shared goals.
Chief Afubu specifically mentioned areas of shared interest:
“On economic development, both the Igala and Nupe-Kogi communities are home to several natural resources. By working together, the two communities could develop these resources and create jobs for their people.
“When it comes to infrastructure development, both communities need improved roads, schools, hospitals, and other infrastructure. By working together, the two communities could pool their resources and build the infrastructure that they need.
“Both communities have been plagued by insecurity in recent years. By working together, the two communities could develop strategies to improve security and protect their people,” he said.
Chief Afubu said the formation of a political alliance between the Igala and Nupe-Kogi communities could have a significant impact on the upcoming November 11 elections, adding that by working together, the two communities could increase their chances of electing candidates who will represent their interests and improve the lives of their people.
In addition to the benefits mentioned, Chief Afubu stressed that a political alliance between the Igala and Nupe-Kogi communities could also help to promote peace and unity in Kogi State because the two communities have a long history of conflict, but by working together, they could begin to heal the wounds of the past and build a brighter future for all.
