Unmask Faces of Perpetrators of Fraudulent Acts, Kogi NUJ Tells Yahaya Bello

The Kogi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in a communique issued at the end of her congress recently at the NUJ Press Centre, Lokoja has called on the state government to ensure that faces of those involved in the fraudulent act in the ongoing screening exercise should be unmasked so as to serve as deterrent to others.

The congress, though applauded the state government on the ongoing screening exercise on the civil servants in the state, however frowned at a situation were some of her members were not given forms for the exercise.

The congress appealed to Governor Yahaya Bello led administration to look critically into the continued depletion of members of staff of Radio Kogi and THE GRAPHIC NEWSPAPER with a view to employing more professional hands to enhance the daily operations of the two media houses.

It was also noted that members of staff of the two media houses who were employed between 2014-2015 and have not been paid salaries since October 2015 should be considered and paid their salaries since they are not ghost workers. This gesture the Union noted, would go a long way in strengthening the enormous responsibilities of broadcasting and publishing in the two government owned media houses in the state.

The congress also called on the state government to look into other ministries in the state where there are vacancies as a result of retirement and death of staff members and ensure that such vacancies are filled to move the state forward.

The state chairman of the council, Comrade Ali Atabor informed the congress of the directive of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the union that it will carry out a biometric capturing of eligible journalists in the country.

He therefore encouraged all members to make themselves available for the exercise through their various chapels.
