The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has disclosed plans to safeguard it’s equipment at the Anyigba transmission substation even as it said that plans are in the offing to upgrade the substation under it’s transmission expansion plans.
This was revealed by TCN, while addressing reporters at the Anyigba transmission substation on Friday 19th January, 2018.
Speaking at the substation  Mrs. Mbah who represented the Interim Managing Director of TCN, Mr. Gur  Mohammed said that the Anyigba transmission substation which was awarded in 2007, had failed with the demise of the contractor. Prior to that, part of the substation also got burnt, destroying a lot of the high voltage equipment meant for transformer and other installations in the substation.
With the failure of the contract, the project was abandoned for a long time. But with the coming of a new administration in TCN, the company is making moves to evacuate all the salvageable equipment in the substation for safe storage in TCN’s substation Ajaokuta substation for safe keeping, to prevent them from being vandalised, exposed to further deterioration or fire incident.
Mrs. Mbah further noted that this move became necessary because the company has proper storage facility and security in place in it’s Ajaokuta transmission substation.
Moreover she told reporters that the Anyigba substation would be reawarded as it has already been captured under it’s planned transmission expansion studies.
She further explained that the Anyigba substation is one of the strategic  substation that would evacuate power generation by the Mambilla power plant when it is completely executed and comes on stream.
In this regard she revealed that the Anyigba transmission substation would in TCNs expansion  plans be upgraded to a 330/132kV substation.
Also speaking at the briefing, the AGM Ajaokuta substation Engr. Gote said that it is important that the equipment in the station be moved and that with the strategic position of Anyigba substation in TCNs plans, the station would be rewarded and upgraded for higher evacuation capability invariably increasing transmission capability in the area.
Earlier, while on a courtesy visit to the palace of the Onu Egume, HRH Etila Ajeka, Mrs Mbah said that it was important to intimate him of TCNs plans as the head of the community and to assure him of the company’s cooperation moving forward.
Speaking on behalf of the HRH who was not around at the time of the visit, Mr. Ibrahim Agbadi promised that he would convey discussions concerning the visit to His Royal Highness  on his return.
