Suspected Kidnappers Kill Expatriate in Kogi

An expatriate and another staff working with West African Ceramics, Ajaokuta were killed by armed men suspected to be kidnappers along Ajaokuta-Lokoja road.

A policeman was reportedly killed in the incident which occurred on Saturday.

According to a source, the expatriate, his staff and a police orderly were shot dead while other officers were seriously wounded after a gun battle in Ajaokuta.

The assailants waylaid the expatriate, who was traveling with one of his staff, with the intent of kidnapping him but the policemen attached to him resisted. The hoodlums were said to have to be infuriated by the resistance from policemen and decided to engage them in a gun battle. The expatriate, his staff and a policeman died in the clash.

The suspected kidnappers escaped unhurt.

Kogi State Police Public Relation Officer, Mr. William Aya, who confirmed the incident, said the command had commenced investigation to a view to fish out the perpetrators.
