Police attached to B Division, Felele in Lokoja, Kogi State on Sunday foiled a suspected robbery and kidnapping attempt on a member of Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Idris Ndako.
It was learnt that the two suspects stormed the Felele residence of the lawmaker at about 9.30 pm but could not achieve their mission due to their inability to explain themselves to the wife of the lawmaker who immediately alerted her husband.
According to Hon Idris Ndako, who represents Lokoja II state constituency, it was with God’s intervention that the plot was foiled.
“At about 9.30pm on Sunday, my wife said I had visitors. When I came out I saw two strange faces, it was later that I identified Mola Haruna, a son of a prominent politician from Oworo, who is now late, and one other who said he is an Okun man. When I asked from what part of Okunland he comes from he said Otu local government area. It was later he confessed that he is from Okene and was invited by Mola for a business. When pressed further, Mola said they wanted to form an association and came to seek my approval to be the leader. I alerted the police immediately”, he narrated.
Mola Haruna, it was alleged, had been arrested before for kidnapping a lady at Felele estate, Lokoja. His comrade in crime who gave his name as Bobby, was alleged to have been traced and arrested in the past by Police Special Squad from Abuja for undisclosed offence.
The police were said to have quickly responded to the distress call made by the lawmaker and stormed the residence to foil the criminal plot.
According to an eye witness, when police arrived they conducted a search on the suspects.
“The police, on arrival, identified Bobby as the suspect who was once traced by Special Squads from Abuja. They searched the suspects and some rolls of weeds suspected to be cannabis and over N60,000 was found on them”, he said.
Efforts made by this reporter to contact the Kogi State Police Public Relation Officer proved abortive.
