The Association of Local Government of Nigeria, (ALGON), Kogi State chapter has refuted the allegation of arrest made against it chairman and the administrator, Ijumu Local Government Area, Hon. Taofiq Isah, saying Senator Dino Melaye, who raised the alarm was seeking attention.

It could be recalled that there were rumour recently that Taofiq was arrested by the Nigeria Police Force in Ijumu.

The association in a statement signed by its director general, media and publicity, Mr Haruna Abdulkerim, yesterday in Abuja, said he allegation was an attempt by the Dino to tarnish the personality of Isah, adding that Isah was actually in Abuja with the state governor, Yahaya Bello on the said day and wouldn’t have been arrested at the same time in Kogi.

“Dino’s recent ranting was not unconnected to his power over who takes what appointment especially from Kogi West under the government of Kogi State. Dino wants to be the one to dictate and decide the running of ALGON. Just like Yahaya Bello, Hon. Taofiq refused to let himself be used by Dino to achieve his selfish and inordinate ambitions which are capable of destroying the solid foundation for development that the state is currently building. Dino has tried to lord himself over the ALGON Chairman, but his all efforts have been in futility hence his anger and mischief making.

“It is clear and on record that ALGON members were in Abuja on the said date where the Governor of Kogi state bagged an award of recognition for outstanding leadership and efforts at addressing security challenges in the state. So, we wonder how someone who was in Abuja, could be arrested at Ijumu at the same time.

Many Kogites have seen the fruitless efforts by these gangs of mischief makers to distract the government and cause an unnecessary heat within the polity. Their attempts will continue to fail, because this government is resolute. No self-seeking individuals would be allowed to hold Kogi State to ransom anymore, at least, not under our watch,” he explained.

He therefore urged Kogi citizens to shun the rumour saying those paddling the rumour have no interest of the state at heart.

“They only want a Kogi State where it would be business as usual, where a small caucus of self-serving politicians would put the entire resources of the state in their pockets at the detriment of the general good. We must join hands together to rid ourselves of these corrupt and egocentric individuals who are bent on bringing this state to its knees,” he urged.
