The member representing Lokoja II state constituency in Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Idris Ndako has blamed the insensitive zoning arrangement in Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the main reason for his defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmaker spoke to Kogireports in Lokoja against the backdrop of claims that he dumped PDP because he was not guaranteed automatic second term ticket to contest for a second term in the Assembly.
He explained that what was obtainable in his Lokoja II constituency all along is a sense of belonging among all the communities in the area. He said there has never been a time the communities agree on zone the House of Assembly seat.
He recalled how he had to step down for other aspirants in the past because of his love for the constituency and not because of any zoning arrangement. He stated that the issue of reaching an agreement on zoning was proposed during the last elections but representatives of Kupa and some other communities refused to sign the agreement.
On he rumoured bid to replace Kolawole Mathew as Speaker of the House, Ndako said he did not decamp to APC because of House leadership.
However, he said he will not reject the offer if his colleagues found him worthy to lead the Assembly.
“Contrary to the rumour that I decamped to replace Speaker Kolawole Mathew, I decamped to the APC because my former party, PDP, said they have zoned the Assembly seat to Kupa South by that knocking me out from the contest. Whereas, the electorates having seeing my performances, are urging me to take another shot at the Assembly.
“If I was given a chance and I lose at the primary, I wouldn’t mind but for them to shut me out even before the contest I have to move to another party where I can answer the call of my supporters and electorates,”  he said.
On the constitutional crisis arising from his defection, the lawmaker said, “I’m not afraid of that. We shall meet in court”.
