Opinion: When Outsiders Feel They Can Choose Senator for Kogi East

I like Alhaji Jibrin Isa Echocho (AJIE) but I don’t need a Senegalese marabout to know that he won’t be senator in 2019. He has chosen to remain a boy that will always hide behind a sponsor anytime he want to contest elections. When will AJIE grow up and become a man?

AJIE was hiding behind former governor Ibro in 2011 to win but failed. In 2015, he was hiding behind Omakore and failed again. It is curious that he is aspiring to run in 2019 and he is shamelessly hiding behind public enemy number one, Yahaya Bello! Can’t he learn from the late Prince Audu? Audu was a man! He lives on in our minds.

Since Echocho decided to line up behind Yahaya Bello for senate ticket come 2019, I have watched discussions with keen interest. I discovered that most of his supporters today are either Ogirima, Adeiza, Nene, Itopa or Onimisi. All of them are outsiders without influence in Kogi East. Even if you see a supporter named Abdullahi Ibrahim and begin to wonder if he is from Kogi East, as soon as you see the shape of his mouth you know he is not from Kogi East. These outsiders are unintelligent as they keep shouting and insulting us for not joining their charade in supporting Echocho. Let me say it loud and clear, outsiders cannot and will not decide for Kogi East in 2019!

The fact that Yahaya Bello is governor does not give his non-Igala/Bassa supporters the right to choose our senator for us. It is an impossible assignment. We wonder why Echocho is now agitating to go to senate when he bluntly rejected automatic Kogi East APC senate ticket from late Prince Audu. If Echocho had accepted Audu’s offer in 2015 will he need to go through this humiliating journey? That was Echocho’s best chance to become a MAN. It is so unfortunate.

Come 2019, Kogi Easterners will decide who will represent them in the red chamber. Outsiders will not, can not decide for us. We are no underdogs!
