NEMA Sensitizes Kogi Residents on Violence-free Elections

The National Emergency Management Agency, (NEMA) has carried out a sensitization campaign for  residents of Kogi State  on the need to ensure violence- free election.

Addressing stakeholders in Lokoja,  Abuja Area Office Coordinator of NEMA, Ishaya Chonoko, said the workshop was aimed at achieving a credible election devoid of violence.

“NEMA, in partnership with critical stakeholders in election produced the Nigeria risk preparedness and contingency plan, after conducting risk assessment on events that characterized previous elections in the country especially that of 2012,” he said.

He added that the assessment identified 20 states as flashpoints based on their history.  He urged critical stakeholders in the 2015 election to exercise restraint in the interest of peace and mutual coexistence.

Also speaking, Kogi State Governor Idris Wada commended the agency for the workshop, describing it as timely.

The governor, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Emergency, AVM Gabriel Abdul, said his administration is committed to transparency and peace and as such is ready to partner NEMA to achieve its objectives.

Earlier, Executive Secretary of the state Emergency Management Agency, Mrs Alice Ogedegbe, urged participants to take the message to their people.
