The Nigerian Copyright Commission has arrested five people in Kogi State over piracy, warning people to desist from the act or face the law.

A Senior Copyright Officer in the commission, Mr Chukwuemeka Ngene,  gave the warning when he led a team of the commission to Lokoja at the weekend.

He said the suspects were involved in hacking signals of satellite providers and that they will lead the commission to the source of the materials they use.

Ngene lamented that activities of pirates in the country have become worrisome, as they deprive legitimate business owners of enjoying the fruits of their labour.

“Five people were arrested in Lokoja.  Exhibits collected from them include laptops, black boxes , decoders and other gadgets  used in hacking into signals belonging to DSTV, My TV, Strong and other satellite service providers. After investigation they will be charged to court under the Nigeria Copyright Law 2004,” he said.

One of the arrested suspects who identified himself as Musa told journalists that though he deals in sale and maintenance of decoders, he does not engage in piracy as alleged by the  commission.
