Monarch Appeals to Govt for Aid as Arsonists Raze Houses in Aluaja, Ibaji LGA

Following the burning of over 140 houses at Aluaja village in Ibaji Local Government area of Kogi State by arsonists, traditional ruler of one of the villages has appealed to the state government and the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, to come to the aid of the community.

The Onu of Aluaja, Chief Ben Akoji, who made the call in a press statement made available to newsmen in Lokoja yesterday, stated that the people of Aluaja village have been rendered homeless as they have fled from their devastated home to other towns and villages in Ibaji.

The traditional ruler explained that the clash, which took place between warring villages of Itale, Iru and Abujaga, on one side and Alujaga, on the other, led to the burning of over 140 houses in the community.

He pointed out that the incident has been reported to the Divisional Police Officer at Onyedaga, the Headquarters of Ibaji Local government area and the Paramount Chief of the area.

However a source closed to the community stated that there have been occasional clashes between the warring communities over ownership of fish ponds since 2013.

It was gathered that the latest clash erupted when the remains of late Gabriel Ejima who shot dead and brought home for burial on 22nd May,2015.

It was this latest clash that led to the burning of almost houses in Aluaja as people of the community were allegedly overpowered by the combine effort of Itale, Iru and Abujage attackers.
