…urges Gov. Bello to reconsider stand on KSU lecturers.

Media practitioners from Kogi Central has called on Kogi State Government and leaders of organised Labour in the state to open discussions on how to avert another round of industrial action.

In a statement signed by Acting President of Kogi Central Media Practitioners Association, Comrade Ibrahim Isah-Amoka, it stated that a fresh round of strike is not healthy for the development of the state stressing that no meaningful development can take place in an atmosphere of rancour.

The group maintained that the effort of the present government in bringing sanity to the civil service, the fight against criminals, kidnappings and the ongoing infrastructural development can be hampered with another round of strike considering the critical roles played by civil servants in the implementation of government policies and programmes.
It called on the state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, to use the same wisdom he used on assumption of office in 2016, which it noted brought peace to Labour and the entire state, to resolve the current problem associated with workers in the state.
While sympathizing with government on the ever dwindling resources from the federation account, it appealed to the government to ameliorate the conditions of civil servants in the state work force.
The group however advised Labour to see strike as the last option only when available windows of discussions have been fully explored.
“We equally appreciate the Kogi State House of Assembly, in setting a seven man committee to dialogue with the two sides to settle the Labour impasse in the state. We urge all parties to come to a round table dialogue with the principle of give and take to achieve an amiable and lasting solution,” it said.
Similarly, the Association appealed to the state government to reconsider its stand on lecturers of the Kogi State University (KSU), in the interest of the students.
“The governor is a father to all. We are aware that he takes the issue of education very seriously. We are equally appealing to him to reconsider his stand on the state university lecturers in the interest of the students. History will be kind to him.
“As stakeholders in the Kogi project, we cannot fold our hands when things are going wrong. The strike is avoidable and we are confident that our humane governor will act in the interest of the development of the state which he is so  passionate about.”
