In a bid to win the election, the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC may have moved to douse the acrimonious tension generated by the governorship primary.

A reliable source informed our reporters that the NWC was worried about the torrent of reports streaming from the state to the effect that many of the defeated aspirants were not prepared to work with the candidate of the party, Prince Abubakar Audu.

A chieftain of the party told Vanguard that the national leaders of the party are working on the aspirants to work together in order to give the party a good chance of winning the election.

“I can confirm that some national leaders of our party have been speaking directly to the aspirants to make them see the larger interest of the party. They are aware that Prince Audu is not a popular candidate among the pack that contested the primary, but I can assure you that we are close to reaching a compromise that will suit everyone”, a source who craved anonymity said.

Indications to the effect of gradual reconciliation emerged recently as two leading aspirants in the primary, Alh. Yahaya Bello and Engr. Olusola Olumoroti issued separate statements, pledging their loyalty to the party.

However, sources close to both aspirants said both of them are planning to dump the party to pursue their governorship ambitions elsewhere.

The source said nocturnal meetings have been going on to look into the possibility of defecting to other parties. He said Prince Audu may need to bury his pride to win the confidence of majority of the aspirants.

APC Chairman in Kogi State, Alh. Haddi Ametuo, is however, confident that the party will put its house in order before the election.
