Kogi Workers Table 9 Demands to Govt, Threatens Indefinite Strike

The Kogi State Chapter of the Nigeria Labor Congress, NLC has given seven day ultimatum to the state government to meet its 9 demands on the welfare of its members otherwise would embark on indefinite strike.

The Union, in a release signed by its Chairman, Comrade Onuh Edoka with five other principal officers and issued to the media on Thursday said it the intending industrial action will become necessary if the outgoing government of Captain Idris Ichalla Wada failed to meet their demands before its expiration of tenure in office.

Listed as its demands includes payment of arrears of salaries to all workers in the state, including Local Government and Teachers, Payment of Leave Allowances to all workers in the state, including Local Government and Teachers, Payment of Pension arrears to all beneficiaries, Payment of Annual Incremental Rates and Payment of Promotion arrears to Civil Servants.

Others include Full implementation of CONHESS to all Health Workers in the state and Local Government Councils, Full Implementation of Minimum wage to Teacher and Local Government workers, Reinstatement of the workers of Kogi Travelers (Kogi Transport Company) and settlement of all their entitlements as well as Payment of Weigh-in allowances for workers in the media houses of Kogi State.

The statement added that “It is worthy to note that, while Government continue crying of no fund to pay salaries and other allowances to the workers as stated above, it has directed for the immediate compilation of severance Package of political office holders for onward payment based on selfish interest. Therefore, what is “good for the goose is also good for the gander”.

It however directed all workers in the state to be patient, remain calm and be law abiding as the NLC awaits government’s response within the seven day ultimatum.
