A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State, Dr. William Toyin Akanle has bemoaned the state of backwardness in Kogi West senatorial district.

Speaking with newsmen in Lokoja on Tuesday, Akanle said the people of Kogi West are been dehumanized on a daily basis as a result of poverty.

Describing himself as a bridge between the old and new generation in the senatorial district, Akanle recalled when Kogi West was known for quality education and enterprise. He noted that current situation in the district leaves much to be desired.

The former National Director, State Security Service, said he is joining the 2019 Kogi West senate race because he believes he has all it takes to turn the sad situation around.

“I am a bridge between the old and the young. I have seen a bit of what we were in Kogi West, where we are and have an idea of where we want to be. We were a development focused people. We made impact in all areas of human endearvours but suddenly we lost all that.

“Many people are not happy about where we are at the moment. Many of us are yet to see what the much talked about dividends of democracy in Kogi West in the past fifteen years, thereabout. Our people are dehumanized because of poverty because nobody has been able to leverage on their positions and status as a Senator to change their lives. If you look at our youths you will agree that a lot has to be done.

“I believe that I am better placed to get the best for Kogi West. It is not enough to say I want to the Senate, there are certain qualities we must look out for. I am coming out because I believe I am competent to represent Kogi West. I consider myself as been fit to be the next Senator for Kogi West because I have the capacity, capabilities, experience, network and believe strongly that my developmental projections can push Kogi West into the next realm.

“I believe that if one want to function very well, one need to go through a system. You must have gone through an establishment, you must have seen it, you must have been regulated. When you don’t pass through a system, you do not get regulated and when you don’t get regulated it becomes very difficult for you to be disciplined. When you are not disciplined, it becomes very difficult for you to work in concert with others. You have to be a team player. You cannot do it alone. For someone who has not been regulated, it becomes difficult to appreciate what his or her role should be at such a high level as being a Senator’ he said.

Akanle assured the people of Kogi West of his readiness to mitigate the security challenges that has affected the economy of the district.

“Some years ago, I consulted for a country in East Africa. They had similar security concerns but we were able to manage the situation by developing ‘Peace Cells’.

“I retired as the National Director of the state security service.  I served thirty tears as a spymaster and helped solve complex problems in different states.

“The primary essence of government is to protect lives and properties and make life more meaningful for the citizens. Over the years, I have served as director of state security service in many states and I have had to manage so many crisis. Interestingly, people see state security service as purely security, we are all-rounders. We are experts in various areas. Over these thirty years I have been able to see development as every level and administrative strategies. In the days gone by, we have input in economic policies. I am well prepared.

“Development wise, I have plans to turn Kogi West around. I can make Kogi West a place of pride.  We have a lot of untapped human and natural resources, Kogi West is sitting on gold,” he added.
