Nigeria National League side Kogi United FC yesterday defeated Nigeria Premier League club Lobi Stars 1-0 in a tune-up game at the Lokoja Confluence Stadium.

Kogi striker, Osas Ighe, tapped in a cross from Adam Tijani inside five minutes of the game and the host could have doubled the lead had Tony Wilson not missed a clear chance in the 22nd minute.

Lobi Stars made eight changes in the second half but still failed to redeem itself, with striker Akombo Ukeyima heading wide after being teed off as the Makurdi based side recorded its second loss in two days.

Kogi’s Coach, Fatai Osho, however expressed delight with his wards’ performance, saying the confidence had risen to “acceptable level.”

“Our game plan worked out, even though we didn’t score more from chances created. But we will go back and correct those mistakes,” Osho said.

“I also appreciate the fans for their patient as we promise to give them a team that will win and entertain,” the trained journalist added.

Kogi United will begin its NNL campaign in Group A with a home game against Ranchers Bees of Kaduna on February 15.
