Kogi United Boss Congratulate Eaglets, Hails Abubakar’s Performance

The Chairman of Kogi United Football Club, Mallam Abdul Adama has congratulated the history-making Golden Eaglets of Nigeria for winning the 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup championship in the United Arab Emirates for a record fourth time.

The Nigeria U-17 national age-grade team defeated defending champions Mexico 3-0 in an epic final to clinch the coveted trophy. Eaglets also set a new world record by winning the trophy for a record fourth time and surpassing Germany’s 24 all-time highest goals record by scoring 26 goals in the tournament.

In a statement issued by the club’s spokesperson, Samuel Ahmadu, Mallam Abdul Adama expressed delight at the exceptional football artistry displayed the Golden Eaglets.

According to Abdul Adama, “the Eaglets proved to the world that Nigeria is still force to reckon with in world football.

Mallam Adama also singled out Kogi-born member of the victorious Eaglets, Aliyu Abubakar Audu for his discipline and solid performance in the just concluded tournament.

“On behalf of His Excellency, Captain Idris Ichalla Wada, the Governor of Kogi State and the management of Kogi United Football Club, I salute the Golden Eaglets and our son, Aliyu Abubakar Audu, for the huge success recorded in just concluded FIFA U-17 World Cup. I urge the Nigeria Football Federation to keep the team together”, he said.

“Kogi State is proud of Aliyu Abubakar and his success is an confirmation that talents abound in Kogi state.  The Governor Idris Wada’s dream of raising football talents capable of becoming world stars will be achieved”

Aliyu Abubakar, the Golden Eaglets’ versatile defender featured in all the matches for the Golden Eaglets. He was nicknamed ‘Handsome Ali’ by Coach Manu Garba but back home, he is fondly called ‘Access Ali’. Abubakar hails from Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi state.
