The leadership of National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Kogi State Chapter, has called on Kogi state government and labour unions in the state to as a matter of urgent public importance, sheath their swords and agree to come back to the negotiating table for an amicable resolution of the ongoing labour crisis in the interest of the State.
In a statement signed by the state chairman of NYCN, Comrade Suleiman Mazai Farouq, the umbrella body of the youth said it is making this call after critical review of the prevailing situation in the State.
“The unprecedented positive steps taken by this government within this short time it has been in office are clear indications that this administration has genuine desire to transform the state to the admiration and pride of all Kogites”, the statement reads.
“The commitment and uncompromising stance exhibited by the administration on the ongoing staff screening to rid the state of ghost workers syndrome, which has hitherto eaten deep into the meager monthly allocation from the Federation, is highly appreciated and worthy of commendation. As leaders of Youth in the State, we support this ongoing worthy reforms and urge all well meaning Kogite to support this transformation and give the governor a chance to unfold his reform agenda.
“Hence, we cannot but urge the government and labour unions in the state to as a matter of urgent public importance, sheath their swords and both agree to come back to the negotiating table, for an amicable resolution of this crisis, in the interest of the State.
“As Youth leaders, we are concerned about the plight of our Youths who constitute reasonable percentage of the workforce in the state. Unfortunately, if the crisis continue to remain at the receiving ends.
Comrade Farouq urged all stakeholders to make Kogi work.
