Kogi Slashes Appointees, Workers’ Salary by 40%

As part of measures to meet commitment on the infrastructural development in Kogi,the state government has slashed workers salary by 40 percent.

The Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Mr. Jacob Edi who disclosed this in statement signed and made available to newsmen in Lokoja yesterday.

The statement further said that this development become necessary in of the dwindling in the federal allocation on monthly basis.

It was learnt that the state government received a total sum of 3.7 billion last month, while sum 2.5 billion was accrued to the state in month of  April  as the monthly  wage bill stands at 3.2 billion.

Following the shortfall from federation Account all the workers in grade level 7 and above, the state commissioners, special Adviser and all appointed were affected,while the staff in grade level 1-6 are not affected.

With this development state government will be able to pay salary to all workers rather than owe black log of salary.

The state government however disclosed that was jointly taken by all stakeholders.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Alhaji Momoh-Jimoh Lawal has called for a high-power security Joint Task Force (JTF) to curtail the incessant killings and other criminal activities in Kogi Central Senatorial District.

Lawal who made the call while speaking yesterday at plenary, said the present wave of crime and criminality in the area had become a thing of serious concern and worry.
