The commissioner said that members of the various communities in the state now voluntarily gave information to the police on activities of criminals.

“We also get support from the state government and the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris,”he said.

The commissioner said that with the support of the state government the rate of kidnapping had been reduced drastically.

He said that the topographical nature of the state was also militating against crime control in the state.

“The topographical nature of the state is another contributing factor why security issue is enormous in the state.

“It is a state that has tick forests, mountainous and hilly structures, these factors are militating against crime control in the state.

“Kogi is the only state in the country bordering nine states of Niger, Ekiti, Edo, Anambra, Kwara, Ondo, Enugu, Benue and Nasarawa”, he said.

He urged Kogi indigenes to always avail the police with useful information that could help them to check crime in the state.

Chafe also cautioned the people to desist from being political while talking about security matters.

“We need to be careful when we talk about security.

“We are calling on the people to come up with useful information to the police to provide adequate security in the state”, he said.

NAN reports that Gov. Yahaya Bello of the state was recently given the ‘Most Security Conscious Governor’ award by the Nigeria Police Force.
