Pensioners in Kogi State have called on Governor Idris Wada to set up a committee that will critically assess their plights, saying many of their colleagues have died without receiving their entitlements.

In a statement, leader of the group, Dr Jacob Olorunsola Iroko, said the way pensioners die on daily basis without claiming their entitlements is worrisome.

The statement said in recent times, more than 20 pensioners in the state have died, while some are bedridden due lack of money to undertake medical treatment.

“The rate at which pensioners are dying of hypertension and stroke is alarming. Our conditions are critical and the system is harsh to us. It seems as if there is a conspiracy to send us to early graves”, the group said.

They called on the state governor to institute a probe into how pension funds are being disbursed in the state.
