Kogi command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Thursday paraded six suspected drug dealers arrested for being in possession of about 300.7 kilogrammes of illicit drugs. Parading the suspects, Commander of the agency in Lokoja, Alhaji Idris Bello,   said cannabis sativa (Indian hemp) and other psychotropic substances were seized from the suspects during various operations.

According to him, the dealers were hiding under the electioneering atmosphere to perpetrate their evil business, warning that the command would not relent in its efforts to rid the state of illicit drugs by going after their dealers.

He explained that a J5 Peugeot bus loaded with 36 bags of cannabis  sativa weighing 290.5kg was intercepted on Ayere-Kabba road where it broke down due to a mechanical fault on its ways from Owo in Ondo State.

Bello said that following intelligence reports, NDLEA operatives accosted the bus which was left on the roadside with its conductor, one Isiaka Umaru and during a search, the 36 bags of cannabis sativa were discovered.

The conductor, according to him, told the operatives that the driver had gone to get a mechanic and buy spare parts to repair the broken down bus adding that he (driver) was unaware of the content of the bags.
