The Kogi State legislative quarters in Lokoja has been in total black for over  seven days as a result of unpaid electricity bills to Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).
Daily Trust investigation shows that the legislative quarters located along Ganaga road is indebted to PCHN to the tune of over N2 million.
A source said PHCN staff came to cut off the light after the quarters had failed to pay the bill. This, it was found, led to the use of generating sets by legislative members.
The source also said N5000 is being deducted from each lawmaker’s account as PCHN bill and wondered why those responsible for the payment had put the quarters in total darkness for several days.
The bill was initially put at over N3 million but after reconciliation it was put at over N2 million.
Chief press secretary to Kogi House of Assembly Speaker, Austine Akubor said it was not true that the legislative was in black out as a result of non payment of PCHN bill, saying the blackout was due to the turnaround maintenance of facility going on in the quarters.
