Ahead of November 2, governorship elections in Kogi State, the Forum of Kogi Youth, an umbrella body of various groups drawn from the three Senatorial districts of the state, have endorsed the Director General of National Space, Research and Development Agency, NARSDA, Professor Seidu Onailo Mohammed to contest the governorship.

Speaking at the event in Lokoja,  convener of the group,  Engr. Olafemi Benard Karimi said, the state needs to be rescued from the phenomenon of misrule,  noting that it takes one who has the capacity to do so.

He explained that the group have in the last few months engaged critical stakeholders which discovered his track records, saying they were optimistic that Professor Seidu Mohammed would address the infrastructural and human capital  underdevelopment in Kogi State.

“In the last few months we have engaged some Elders and grassroot political groups in the three Senatorial districts.

“As Director General of NARSDA, two Nigerian Satellites were built under him successfully and looking at the sophistication of his job,  it gives us an idea that the infrastructural and human capital  under development in Kogi will be a least burden to him.”

The group said development of the state stopped immediately Alhaji Yahaya Bello took over as governor, saying that the level of crimes as a result of lack of salaries is at worst.

They noted that Kogi has been imperiled in the last three years for choosing a wrong person,  a situation, they said,  must not repeat itself, adding that Alhaji Yahaya Bello was not a democrat.

“This is a critical time for us in the state.  The wrong choice of who governs us brought us to where we are and we must get our choice right this time.”

“As youth, if there was local government election in the last three years, some of us would have been part of government,  but the governor wouldn’t conduct local government elections.  Is democracy?

“Where’s is the 21 local government allocation from the federation account in the last three years?   The state is at a crossroad and we must avoid a repetition of choosing somebody that would further impoverish the state”, the group insisted.

The group urged Professor Seidu Onailo Mohammed to contest election on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
