Ahead of the February 20 re-run of the Kogi East Senatorial election, the candidate of the Labour Party (LP) and four other candidates from different political parties, have stepped down for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Senator Atai Ali Aidoko. The candidates are Aboh A. Samuel of the ACPN; Okpanachi B. Nicolas JP – KOWA; Hon. Ibrahim Gabriel Itodo -LP, Enemaku Amos Arome – MPPP and Hon. Victor K. Akubo – UPP. The spokesman of the contestants, Honourable Victor K. Akubo, who disclosed this while speaking in a chat with journalists in Lokoja yesterday, stated that this has become necessary in order to avoid heating up of the political terrain.

Akubo explained that the five Political parties and their candidates have stepped down from contesting the Senatorial seat of Kogi East in support of Senator Atai Ali Aidoko. “It is also worthy of note and emphasis that the candidate of the Labour Party, Honourable Ibrahim Gabriel Itodo, has withdrawn from the contest and thrown his weight behind the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senator Atai Ali Aidoko forthwith,” he stressed

He pointed out that any person parading him/ herself as Labour Party candidate for February 20, 2016 re-run election should be disregarded because he was not part the 2015 general election and INEC rules and regulation.

“We declared our unequivocal support for the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Atai Ali Aidoko, and thereby appealed to all our brothers and sisters at home and in the Diaspora including all political parties in the zone to massively support Senator Atai Ali Aidoko. Let go of all grievances, acrimony or divide to offer the senator our renewed mandate for Igala Kingdom once more,” he stated. Meanwhile, the five affected political parties in Kogi East have expressed disgust over circumstance surrounding the disqualification of All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate. It would be recalled that INEC has announced 20th February 2016 for re run of two senatorial seats in Kogi Central and East senatorial districts are result of court judgments which annulled the election.
