Kogi Cultivate 140 Hectares Intervention Site for Cassava

Towards realizing the objectives of the FADAMA program implementation in Kogi State, a total of 140 hectares intervention site of Cassava has been established in the state while another 400 hectares would be supported with inputs when the rains begin this year.

Kogi State Governor Capt Idris Wada made the disclosure when he received in audience members of the 2nd Joint World Bank/ FGN supervision mission on the implementation of FADAMA 111 additional financing project in Kogi State.

The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Yomi Awoniyi, said the government would sustain prompt payment of counterpart funds for all externally supported agricultural program in the state.

The Governor disclosed that till date the state government has committed the sum of one hundred and sixty million naira cumulatively as counterpart funds for the implementation of Kogi State FADAMA 111 project, while another sum of N56million has been paid as the counterpart fund for the year 2014 to aid the effective take off of FADAMA 111 additional financing.

Capt Wada called for World Bank support in her youth empowerment programme aimed at creating employment for the teeming youths under the agricultural transformation agenda.

Capt Wada promised the government support in ensuring that farmers in the state are delivered undiluted support, assured of the enabling environment that will ease access to essential farm inputs and equipments, and to also sustain the administration’s integrated rural development efforts towards improving the living standard of farmers and rural dwellers.

In his remarks Dr Abimbola Adubi, said the FADAMA project would be supported in the country to the tune of $200million, but said the benefiting states must sign a financing agreement form which is to be returned to the bank through the Federal Government as well as pay their counterpart funds.

Dr Adubi commended the success attained by the FADAMA project execution in the state, urged other benefiting states to emulate their example in prompt payment of counterpart funds and in the provision of community infrastructures and support to the farmers.

Also speaking, Zaccheaus Atte, Kogi State Commissioner for Agriculture, said apart from the provision of community infrastructures, the state government he added supported the project with the acquisition of assets for both production and value addition purposes, disclosed that the state has been outstanding in FADAMA project execution and commended the state government for their efforts at meeting the objectives of FADAMA project in the state.
