Kogi Assembly Committee Describes Ankpa-Omala Road as Death-Trap, Calls for Urgent Rehab

Kogi State House of Assembly Committee on works has described Ankpa-Ejegbo-Emere-odagba-Enabo-Inye-Ofugo-Abejukolo road as deathtrap, appealed to the state government to take urgent step to rehabilitate the road as a matter of public importance.

The committee made the appeal while embarking on the sport assessment  of the road today following a motion moved by Hon Rabiu Momoh Alfa of Ankpa ii at the floor of the House last week, appealing to the state government to carry out repair of the road because of its economic importance to the people of his constituency.

The chairman of the committee, Hon Victor Omofaiye of Ijumu constituency said the deplorable state of the road was unimaginable, assuring the people that the state government will take quick step to address the bad condition of the road. Hon Omofaye who described the sponsor of the motion, Hon Rabiu Momoh Alfa of Ankpa II and his colleague from Ankpa I, Hon Ahmed Mohammed as good representatives of their people noting that the two members always present socio-economic challenges of the people of their constituencies on the floor of the state Assembly.

The sponsor of the motion, Hon Rabiu Momoh Alfa said he moved the motion appealing to the government because of the untold hardship the people of his constituency have been facing as a result of the bad condition of the road noting that the road was captured in the 2016 budget but regrettably, nothing was done on it as it continue to paralyse the socio-economic activities of his people.

In the same vein, the Vice chairman, House Committee on works, Hon Ahmed Mohammed appealed to the government to fix the road because of its economic and agricultural importance.

While commending Hon Rabiu for moving such motions of public importance, Hon Hassan Abdullahi said rural development with provision of critical infrastructure was top of the present administration of Gov Yahaya Bello’s agenda,assuring the people that government will address infrastructural decay in their area.

Also speaking, Hon Sunday Shigaba and Hon (Dr) Friday Alih noted that the deplorable condition o the road required urgent attention of the government.

The committee also took on the spot assessment of Oguma-Sheria bridge in Bassa Local Government Area of the state.

The Deputy Majority Leader of KSHA and member representing Bassa Constituency Hon Sunday Shigaba moved a motion, appealing to the state government to expedite action and construct the bridge which have crippled economic activities of the people of his constituency. Hon Shigaba said Oguma-Sheria bridge has divided the people of Bassa, disconnecting large portion of the area from government. During the inspection, Hon Shigaba expressed appreciation to the state government under the leadership of His Excellency, Alh Yahaya Bello for mobilising the contractor to the site with cash-backing.

The site Engineer, Engr Bello said with the recent release of fund by the state government, the work on the bridge would soon be completed noting that all the accessories such as slab, bits and others were already available for the work. The Chairman of the committee, Hon Omofaye on behalf of other members  thanked the state government for the release of fund while urging the contractor to up their game to complete the job on time so that the people can start feeling the impact of the government.
