The Federal Government will soon embark on the rehabilitation/reconstruction of the Ilorin-Kabba and Jebba-Ilorin roads, the Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, has said.

During a monthly state government’s public enlightenment programme in Ilorin on Monday, Ahmed said the Erin-Ile/Ajase and other small federal roads in the state were receiving attention.

The two roads had been nightmares to travellers, while numerous accidents that claimed many lives and destroyed goods worth millions of naira had been recorded on the roads at different times.

The governor stated that the state government had continued to take care of federal roads in the state.

“Other federal roads rehabilitated or being rehabilitated include: Pategi-Kpada-Kogi State boundary road; South-Link Road, Ilorin; Kulende-Oyun Ilorin road, Post Office-Michael Imuodu road; Omu-Aran Landmark University and Ohan Bridge on Ilorin-Igbeti Road,” the governor said.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Demola Banu, has said that the state government will construct the phase one of Ilesha-Baruba-Gwanara-Okuta road, a 32.8km road,  at the cost of N1.5bn.

Banu said the contract was awarded to Duravile Engineering Limited, adding that the project has 12 months completion duration.

In another development, the Chairman of Offa Local Government Area, Mr. Waheed Olanipekun, has inaugurated the ‘Operation no potholes’ in the council area.

He said his administration would soon embark on a massive repair of roads within the 12 wards of the local government area, adding that the conditions of roads in the area were part of the major challenges of the council.

He said work had already commenced at the Ajegunle Kara market with the clearing of the open space to facilitate more space for cattle sellers as well as enhance an enabling environment.
