The Federal Government is set to build a modern truck transit park in Kogi State to ease congestion on roads as well ensure safety of drivers.
The Director of Projects, Nigerian Shippers Council, Balarabe Sumaila, who stated this in Lokoja Wednesday while soliciting for 50 hectares of land from the state government for the park, said the truck transit park in the state will be the first among seven trucks parks to be built in the country.
According to him, the project is part of statutory responsibility of the NSC of ensuring safety of cargo and persons.
He said the project has already been advertised for interested bidders and that the NSC will serve as facilitator and regulator.
He further stated that the park which would be located at Banda village close to the Jamata Bridge along Abuja-Lokoja highway will have a motel, canteen, hostels, filling station, police station, warehouse and other modern facilities.
Responding, Kogi State deputy governor, Yomi Awoniyi, called for a clearly defined role that will be played by the NSC in the arrangement to build the park, just as he solicited a clear cut business plan that will enable an understanding by both parties. He assured the council of land.
